What an online visit needs to do
If an online service offers a quick start, look at what happens after the form. Who reads it, and how can the conversation continue?
Your location is part of the visit
Telehealth means care delivered remotely. The health professional assessing or treating you is called a clinician.
As of September 2026, North Carolina’s general licence requirement applied to remote care while the patient was in the state, apart from limited exceptions.
For a visit during travel, give the service your location at the time of the appointment. Ask whether it can provide care there.
A form can begin a conversation
As of September 2026, North Carolina’s Medical Board said a form that asks a fixed list of questions could not alone justify writing a prescription.
The board said the health professional needed a way to ask more questions about the patient’s health.
Ask how that exchange works. It might be a live conversation or information reviewed later, with a way to continue the discussion.
Know how care continues
As of September 2026, the state medical board expected telehealth clinicians to provide their identity and qualifications and verify the patient’s identity and location.
It also expected follow-up arrangements and a route to an in-person exam or test when needed.
- Who reads my answers?
- How do I ask another question?
- How would an exam or test be arranged?
- Who handles a concern after the visit?
